Jesters Hats

2012 FMQ Challenge Badge copy[1]

This month’s tutorial is by Wendy Sheppard.  Wendy based her motif on the jester’s hat, and described it as a simple but fun quilting motif.  I really enjoyed doing this one.  As usual my doodling on paper was a disaster, and so that step frustrates me enormously.  I  seem to achieve a much better result by just looking and following the line of the stitching with my eye for some time before stitching it.  Not so easy with a more complicated design though.

I have used 2 different sewing machines (hence 2 colours) as my main machine is not behaving nicely for fmq at the moment.  It is skipping stitches – I have tried changing needles, needle types and thread, but it still happens – a visit to the technician is the next step.

There is also a bonus tutorial by Susan Brubaker this month, and I am looking forward to experimenting with it as soon as I am able to do so.

Last night I worked on piecing this backing

to be used for this quilt for one of my young Grandies.

Also I cut some more squares for my next Aussie Hero quilt which I need to finish and send off in early September.

It was a wonderful stitchy weekend.

Productive evening.

Last night was this month’s FNSI.   I started the night by doing some knitting while watching Masterchef.

In my sewing room, it was a good opportunity to finish off some sneaky business.

These 2 projects are now closer to completion.   Hmmm.  Looking good.

I also worked on and have finished making our Sewing Club project from Sew This and That.  This month we made an oven mitt using Insulbrite and Thermaflec.

I have yet to try it out to see that the heat doesnt come through, but it should be safe enough as there are enough layers in it.

All in all a very productive FNSI.

Now to prepare for our bonus Down Under 2nd FNSI.  Off to do some preparation.

I’m looking forward to doing some blog hopping to see what others have done.
